We are delighted to welcome Mr. Mario Sander von Torklus - World Bank Special Representative and Director for Europe. Mr. Sander is responsible for the work of the World Bank offices in Europe. This involves promoting and managing the Bank’s relations with European partners in government around key development challenges. Previously, Mr. Sander also served as Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank in Manila. During the event, Mr. Sander will share key insights on the collaboration between World Bank Group and governments worldwide. Afterwards, we will have a moderated Q&A session.

About the Speaker

Mario Sander von Torklus

Special Representative and Director for Europe at World Bank, External and Corporate Relations

In this role Mr. Sander is responsible for the work of the World Bank offices in Europe that promote and manage the Bank’s relations with European partners in government around key development challenges; and provide advice to Senior Management on all aspects of the World Bank Group’s relations with Europe.

​

Mr. Sander, a German national, is a seasoned professional with both operational and policy experience from field and corporate assignments that has allowed him to build a deep understanding of technical project and advisory work, policy design and multilateral cooperation as well as a strong network across European capitals and within the multilateral development world. He previously served as the Executive Director for Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Turkey and the United Kingdom at the Asian Development Bank, a position he held from 2012-2017. Prior to taking up his post in Manila, he was the Advisor for Global Issues, United Nations and Development Policy at the German Federal Chancellery in Berlin. Other posts include Deputy Head, Division for Basic Principles, Concepts and Political Planning in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ); Head of the German Agency for Technical Co-operation’s (GTZ) Riyadh Country Office in Saudi Arabia.
